Dr Roman Yampolskiy | The Case for Narrow AI
*Dr Roman Yampolskiy | The Case for Narrow AI *
We discuss everything AI safety with Dr. Roman Yampolskiy. As AI technologies advance at a breakneck pace, the conversation highlights the pressing need to balance innovation with rigorous safety measures. Contrary to many other voices in the safety space, argues for the necessity and benefits of of maintaining AI as narrow, task-oriented systems.

*About The Foresight Institute*
The Foresight Institute is a research organization and non-profit that supports the beneficial development of high-impact technologies. Since our founding in 1986 on a vision of guiding powerful technologies, we have continued to evolve into a many-armed organization that focuses on several fields of science and technology that are too ambitious for legacy institutions to support. From molecular nanotechnology, to brain-computer interfaces, space exploration, cryptocommerce, and AI, Foresight gathers leading minds to advance research and accelerate progress toward flourishing futures.

The Hedonistic Imperative is as close as I’ve ever had to a Bible. When i’m proselytizing and I reach the subject of veganism and factory farming I often wonder if I should also mention the phasing out of predation too or if i’m giving the person more than they’re ready for and thus being counter productive. I’m also not quite clear if David was saying he thinks we should phase out predators in the natural world or use technical means such that they don’t need prey to survive. Stay dedicated to a cosmos free of involuntary suffering. ❤️

48:02 We get an open society to coordinate better by building better systems, supported by better algorithms. Tech, and the interaction with tech, has value embedded in it, so we build system that reinforce sustainable notions. Until our financial and monetary systems (for example) are future-proof, we will continue to follow Moloch over the edge, imo.

Pain is inherent in life. Suffering is thought about pain, ego. Temporary fix; No thought = no suffering; Zen! Permanent fix; The Enlightened/Saved cannot 'suffer'! Anyone can be 'Saved'!; "Born again" into the state of Unconditional Love = Salvation = Enlightenment = Heaven = Immortality True, Unconditional Love is ALWAYS Known by It's Unconditional Virtues; Compassion, Empathy, Sympathy, Gratitude, Humility, Charity (Charity is never taking more than your share of anything, ever!), Honesty, Happiness, Faith... ALWAYS! In this state, 'suffering' is impossible! ;)

I just think these ideas are beautiful. I have three kids, two whom have genetic mutations that eff with their body's ability to process salt, so this mucus gunk hampers multiple organs such that they struggle to absorb nutrition, to breathe, among other things. The gene modulator they take, we and our Drs suspect, is not targeted well given the drugs were designed with the most common mutation variant. So, we've started to see build-ups of mucus and scarring in organs. But these beautiful people in this community... I am just filled with awe. I wept when I saw that happy little anthrobot mend the wounded neuronal tissue. Because I felt an emotion I haven't for so long. Hope. I feel desire to help in any way I can. I got a Ph.D. in the wrong field (health economics), perhaps. Do any of these teams need the perspectives of an empirical economist? I want to learn anything I can about these things.

Questions to Jean Hebert & his Team: 1.What is your view on PTB Inhibition (Ptbp1) triggering glial cells (specifically astrocytes) to convert to neurons in the brain and general "Astrocyte to Neuron conversion" approach via drugs/chemical induction? I know there has been conflicting evidence of its effectiveness...your opinion? Its been researched for Parkinsons but wouldnt this method also apply for general brain rejuvenation or at least reverse alzheimer? 2. In your outline using grafts to replace brain tissue you hint for applying local jamming of parts of the brain to further facilitate network connectivity of newly grafted neuronal cell lines. Is jamming really necessary...wouldnt it be sufficient to engage in cognitive training and/or tailoring it with stimulation techniques (like TMS)? 3. Do you ve plans to apply for DeSci? Thank you and your team so much for working on one of if not the most important research area there is.
